An altitude training room is a reduced-oxygen space designed to simulate training at elevation. Athletes can use treadmills, bikes, rowers, SkiErgs, steppers and other conditioning equipment while the room operates at a selected simulated altitude.
Typical applications include professional teams, national institutes, Olympic programmes, universities, sports-science facilities, commercial gyms, endurance centres and private high-performance facilities.
For active training rooms, Box Altitude typically uses an initial planning guide of approximately one F20 generator per 12 m³ of room volume. Occupancy, target altitude, air leakage, ventilation and training intensity affect final design.
Example: 60 m² × 2.4 m ceiling = 144 m³ → approximately 12 F20 generators as an initial planning estimate.
NZCIS in Upper Hutt, New Zealand combines a large simulated-altitude training environment with altitude-enabled athlete accommodation. It demonstrates how a multi-generator system can be integrated into a purpose-built high-performance campus.
Where air conditioning is required, a split-system, cassette or bulkhead split system is typically preferred so conditioned air remains within the room. Door opening frequency, fresh-air management, sealing, athlete numbers and equipment heat load are also considered in the final specification.
The Training Cloud is designed for individual indoor altitude sessions inside a dedicated enclosure. A full altitude training room is suited to facilities needing multiple athletes, multiple machines or a permanent commercial installation.
